PSA Airlines is a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Airlines Group. Focused on regional travel, PSA Airlines faces stiff competition for talent with major carriers for flight attendants, pilots, and maintenance crews.

Gaining a competitive edge from data

With more than 5,000 employees, PSA Airlines isn’t small. But the company doesn’t have endless resources to spend on recruiting, especially when compared to major carriers.

PSA Airlines uses data and insights from iCIMS ATS to find creative ways to get in front of in-demand candidates. The team uses hiring data to focus its efforts on roles with the longest time-to-fill and invests in talent sources that yield the greatest number of high quality and successful candidates.

How PSA reached more candidates faster

One way PSA Airlines gets in front of candidates faster is with the iCIMS Indeed Apply. After implementing the integrations between iCIMS and Indeed, PSA Airlines received 10,000 applications in two months. “That was amazing, but we needed to be able to process applications and interview candidates as quickly as possible,” says the director of talent management at PSA Airlines.

For that, PSA Airlines uses video interviews integrated into iCIMS’ ATS to accelerate the application timeline. The change allowed them to drop inefficient phone screens and put the airline in touch with applicants within 72 hours. It also made applying quicker for candidates, with application time dropping from 22 minutes to less than seven.

As a result, PSA Airlines more than doubled the number of flight attendants in hiring classes, increasing from an average of 40 new hires to 100.

Filling high turnover positions was all about understanding what our candidates had to go through when applying for a job with us. Making the application process easier allows us to stay competitive.

Faster communication leads to more hires

When PSA added iCIMS Text Engagement to its toolbox, its time to fill shrank by four days. “That’s a big deal,” says the director of talent management at PSA Airlines. “Four days means someone is going to start with me instead of starting with another company.”

Text Engagement also allows PSA Airlines to connect with candidates who are not responding to recruiters. Candidates are more likely to follow through with a phone screen or an interview when they receive a follow-up text within 24 hours of applying.
