DeVry Inc., one of the largest publicly held, international higher educational organizations in North America, is a global provider of educational services and the parent organization of DeVry University, Advanced Academics, American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, Becker Professional Education, Carrington College California, Chamberlain College of Nursing, DeVry Brazil, and Ross University Schools of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. DeVry’s purpose has been to empower its students to achieve their educational and career goals since Dr. Herman DeVry established the first school in 1931.
In 2008, DeVry employed 4,400 employees worldwide and was using a completely manual, paper-based process to recruit its employees. Each of the eight institutions had its own method of manually sourcing and tracking applicants and consequently, information was often lost. Additionally, candidates were not shared across the organizations. As a result, applicants often became confused and unsure of which affiliate of DeVry they had applied to and recruiters didn’t have a master pool of candidates from which to source and hire. Behind the scenes, DeVry was spending too much valuable time and money on mailing costs and negotiating with staffing vendors. Recruiters across the board realized they were not capitalizing on the talent pool, and in order to continue rapidly growing, the company would need to implement an Applicant Tracking System (ATS). On top of streamlining its candidates across multiple locations, DeVry needed a system that could seamlessly integrate with its top pick for a Pre-Employment Screening program, SHL.
DeVry considered the ATS offered by Taleo Business Edition and ADP before ultimately selecting the iCIMS Talent Platform. Impressed with iCIMS’ reporting features, robust Helpdesk support, vendor management technology and affordable prices, DeVry found the decision to be easy. In addition, iCIMS had the ability to seamlessly integrate with SHL for pre-employment screening processes, which focuses on competencybased assessment like IQ tests, to further evaluate and hire top notch candidates. Unlike the competition, iCIMS had a stellar relationship with the assessment provider and was able to commit to a best of breed technology integration, ensuring the exchange of data between systems wouldn’t be slow or lost.
Now with over 15,000 employees worldwide, DeVry is a proud client of both iCIMS and SHL. Since complete automation and integration with iCIMS and SHL in 2008, DeVry, Inc. has saved an average of $100,000 yearly on mail costs, and averaging a 30-50% decrease in time to fill positions. Time and money spent negotiating with vendors has decreased as well with the vendor management platform, previously spending $1.5 million a year, and now average $500,000 a year. DeVry even experienced decrease in turnovers in some areas after using the Talent Platform and SHL together to select top notch applicants. The incredibly intuitive yet robust technology has also significantly improved the experiences for hiring managers candidates, allowing DeVry to source, recruit and hire effectively across all eight of its institutions around the world.
