DC Prep, a public Charter School dedicated to changing public education in Washington DC, was already utilizing the iCIMS Talent Platform to recruit the passionate, talented, and uncompromising educators that form the backbone of DC Prep’s rigorous academic program. But with plans to expand from one school to ten in just 7 years, DC Prep began to consider the other half of the equation: their students. Could the Talent Platform be flexible enough to support the unique task of not only recruiting the educators, but also recruiting, registering and managing the students?

In order to meet the increasing demand for an alternative to the education offered by the District’s struggling public schools, DC Prep intends to expand their Charter School academic program to encompass 10 campuses across the city. This would mean extending their education program to over 3,000 preschool, elementary and middle school students over the next decade. In order to do so, however, DC Prep must be able to attract and enroll the pupils that will in turn lead to the funding necessary to open new campuses and pay for its innovative educational programs.

The challenge faced by the school’s founders was how to register and accurately track future students, without taking away from the important day-to-day task of educating today’s students. The pre existing process of collecting student information manually, and entering it onto Excel spread sheets was no longer viable across DC Prep’s expanding campuses. They needed a solution flexible enough to fill multiple grade levels in various locations, and that could report the results accurately for per-pupil funding purposes.

iCIMS stepped up to the challenge, and configured a student enrollment portal for DC Prep where families can search and apply for openings at the school’s growing network of campuses by grade level and location. Twenty-four hour online access allows families to submit enrollment data even after the school day ends, and even for school locations that aren’t scheduled to open until the following school year. In a charter system where schools must accept every student that applies, the iCIMS Talent Platform ensures that no student’s enrollment forms are ever lost, and that applicants can be considered on a first-come first-served basis.
