From this point on, I will always remember this summer as the summer I was SaaS-a-frassed!  And I’m not referring to getting schooled by some tree that is just so happened to be named Sassafrass. I learned a lot this summer, including what SaaS is, among other things…

Because I am the nerd that I am, and the only person I know (other than Santa Claus) who enjoys making lists and checking things off… here’s my list of 4 things I never knew before Summer '09, but learned while interning at iCIMS.

1. iCIMS likes lists like I do…

But their lists are a little more in-depth, unlike my grocery list with abbreviations like ‘Tpaste’.  Their Applicant Tracking System allows users to create tasks for a new employee during the onboarding process, like filling out paperwork in the pre-hire stages, to planning their first day on the job with orientation meetings. When the task is completed it gets checked off, keeping employees and new hires on the same page, organized and avoiding any administrative tasks slipping through the cracks.

2. Search words do more than just get you results on Google…

When you search for a web site on Google, you provide key words to the search engine to generate the best possible results.  The iCIMS' Talent Platform works in the same way. When a job is posted and candidates apply for the position, the system matches as many possible key words from the job post to the information the candidate leaves. The result is the best match or matches for the position, enabling the recruiter to weed out those unqualified candidates and instead only concentrate on narrowing down the best talent.

3. Back to the Basics…

Remember when school started and the new fad was TrapperKeepers, and you begged your mom for one because if you didn’t get one you’d just die? And she said no junk, just the basics, notebooks, pencils, colored pencils, erasers... No? Just me? Okay, well I’m sure you can relate with some other fad… But even though she caved and I got the TrapperKeeper, I hate to admit it- my mom was right.

In the beginning, everyone thinks they NEED everything, all the bells and whistles… but later on it turns out they want the thing that least complicates their life.  iCIMS is all about bringing things ‘back to the basics’ and focusing on the fundamentals of ease-of-use, speed/availability, and customer service.  By focusing on these core topics to drive the customer experience, iCIMS has become one of the fastest growing companies in the industry.

4. How many of you think the only place left to receive great customer service is at Disney World?

I would have “ditto-ed” your response before my internship here… but iCIMS prides themselves on customer satisfaction and maintains a very high customer retention rate.  It’s a no-brainer why customers (I mean ‘guests’) of Disney and clients of iCIMS have continued to return/stay.  I mean why would you waste time and money to ask someone a question only to get an answer from some one reading off the website?  Besides the people at iCIMS are all about the customer experience leveraging SaaS… not sass!
